The Filmmakers

Vanessa Hudson
Director, Producer & Writer: Vanessa Hudson

Vanessa is an emerging New Zealand Filmmaker having recently produced and directed her first short documentary “From Dumpster to Dinner Plate”.

She has come to filmmaking after working in a variety of roles in both NZ and Europe from which she has accumulated a diverse range of life and work experiences. Those years were interspersed with numerous independent backpacking adventures spanning five continents, which saw Vanessa tackle an array of challenging opportunities and situations.

Fascinated by the diversity of cultures and people she discovered, especially in the third world countries, Vanessa realised that she was no longer content to simply capture these experiences through her stills photography. So she returned to New Zealand to up skill as a Documentary Director and Producer at South Seas Film and Television School, graduating with a double major in 2011.

Vanessa has a passion to communicate stories that will engage the viewer and express the wide range of issues and emotions that people all over the world are dealing with. As with “From Dumpster to Dinner Plate” her desire when writing and directing future documentaries is to create an environment where people and issue based stories will provoke, inform, entertain and hopefully inspire.
